Commissioned for this exhibition, my diagram "The Studio" (inkjet on mesh) sketches out the history of the artist studio in context. It is based on materials about the show the curators, Michelle Grabner and Annika Marie, provided me with during the planning phase, including an advance copy of the book "The Studio Reader: On the Space of Artists" , a co-publication of the University of Chicago Press and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, edited by Mary Jane Jacob and Michelle Grabner, with special contributions by over 20 artists, including Art & Language, John Baldessari, Walead Beshty, Daniel Buren, Rodney Graham, Karl Haendel, Rachel Harrison, Bruce Nauman, Carolee Schneemann, Buzz Spector, Marjorie Welish, and James Welling. Essays by leading writers feature: Glenn Adamson, Svetlana Alpers, Courtney Martin, Barry Schwabsky, Katy Siegel, Howard Singerman, Robert Storr, and Lane Relyea.
