"Dixit Insipiens"

1997, St. James Epicopal Cathedral, Chicago

In the framework of a group exhibition curated by Nathan Mason, "Dixit Insipiens" was a four week, three ellipsoidal light installation in the center aisle of St. James Episcopal Cathedral in Chicago. The church was open for regular events and services.

The image on the left shows how the light shining through the stained glass window on the west facade of the church mingles with the installation.

In the image on the right, taken appr. 45 minutes later, the stained glass window is fully projected by the sun in front of the installation.

The images were taken during an afternoon concert at the church.

The title "Dixit Insipiens" translates to "The Fool Says", and is the beginning of a psalm I found in a prayerbook at the church.
