"Blink - Interventions in the Salon"

a group show curated by Julie Charmelo and Brian RitchardatNorthern Illinois University Art MuseumGallery in Chicago

Creating a temporary turf, Sally, an installation by Adelheid Mers, relies on the intermittent placement of theatrical lights casting colored shapes onto the ground as a means of establishing and encouraging visitor flow. By removing the doors that usually hide the storage area, Mers encourages the exploration of Sally, which, to be fully experienced, relies on visitors' movement through the space, as it illuminates a route that leads from the gallery through the storage rooms and back in a circular pattern.Typically off-limits to the public, the gallery storage room presents an everyday reality of stacked chairs and tools, a kitchen area and access to a freight elevator. For the duration of this show it seamlessly connects with the exhibition space, giving rise to an area filled with unexpected potential in the process.
